Vittoria countryside… produces above all wine, highly respected and to be, in my opinion, considered the best of the table wines of the entire island. It is composed mainly of Grosso Nero and Calabrian grapes and supremely of Frappato.

From the “Travel Journal” of the abbot Paolo Balsamo. Written in 1808, the abbot words refer to the Frappato and Nero d’Avola vines, the native varieties that still give the unique Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG.

Typical cherry-red colour, full round flavour and aroma, fruity scented, the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG is the pride of the grape growers, winemakers and bottlers that accomplished the prestigious Protected and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin (with ministerial decree on 13th September 2005) for the Cerasuolo di Vittoria and Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classic wines. The wines were already labeled as DOC with a decree of the President of the Republic on 29th May 1973, amended by ministerial decree on 6th November 1991.

The area of production comprehends the municipalities of Ragusa, Vittoria, Comiso, Acate, Chiaramonte Gulfi, Santa Croce Camerina, Niscemi, Gela, Caltagirone, Licodia Eubea, Riesi, Butera, Mazzarino and Mazzarrone (five being in Ragusa province, two in Caltanissetta province and two in Catania province). The production of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classic is only allowed in the municipalities of Acate, Chiaramonte Gulfi, Vittoria (all in the Ragusa province).

The Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG shows a cherry-red to violet colour, it is dry, full, velvety, wellorchestrated to palate and flowery, cherry fruited to nose. The Regulations for the production of the Classic imposes 18 month of ageing: hencefort the colour tends to garnet-red and the aroma is more complex with tones of chocolate, leather and tobacco.
